Champion Team Reel Action at Hervey Bay GFC comp.

A quick recap of the Hervey Bay comp that was hosted at the start of November.  With 44 boats in attendance it was the second biggest comp in QLD in years, second only to the Cairns 50th anniversary comp, not a bad effort for a club that has on average 50 actual members.  The draw card is the location, scenery and yes the fishing at times can be out of this world. In saying that the SCGFC had 10 boats up there of all sizes fishing the comp among boats from all over the state so thanks to all that made the effort and the trip up.

Team Reel Action consisted of Col & Kylie Hombsch, Alanna Tuckwell, Neville Martens & yours truly.  Always a tough life fishing on this beauty of a boat, but someone has to do it right…. Day one consisted of 4 Blue Marlin for us which gave us a good start and the lead, with two to Nev, 1 to me & 1 to Alanna.  Having a 4 Blue day in a comp is up there with pretty wicked and YES we were all pretty pumped for the next days fishing.  Day 2 started out okay with a Blue to me around 9am which I am sure put the pressure on a  few other boats.  There were fish caught that day and with Mistress and MOJO both find them we were a little under the pump.  At the close of Day 2 we thought that MOJO had caught us and were less then a light tackle fish behind, no stress at all.   Day 3 started with some terrible weather and the trip out wide was horrid, lucky when we made it over the bar it actually got much better.  MOJO were on to a light tackle black and we had a panic assuming they were in front!!! Lucky for us we hooked a blue and Kylie was on, quite a stubborn fish when the angler is 45 kg wet… Anyway the tag went in and that gave us the lead again, we thought…

Cease fishing was called and the congrats started to come through so we finally could relax and enjoy the trip back to Urangan for the presentation Night.   When we got there I was straight to MOJO to congratulate them, they started cracking up after I told them how stressed we all were as we had mis calculated their points and we were clear all the way ….

Massive thanks to Col & Kylie, Alanna & Nev for being a great team.  Well done to Reel Action for taking out the HBGFC to be top boat out of 44…that-winning-feeling team-reel-action-hbgfc reel-action-sunset-at-fraser oztrail-camper-chairs 6-blues-to-winning-team-reel-action 4-blue-marlin-day-1
